ABOUT

Swamp City Coolers produce bespoke lightweight coolers that add the vintage look to any classic ride without the additional weight of the internal cooling unit. These units are non-functional and are made for the aesthetic look only. However, due to the construction method they do direct airflow into the cabin, albeit not cooled.

Each Swamp City Cooler is manufactured from a rigid polymer tube fitted with the end caps of your choice. Our coolers do not hang from your vehicles glass, instead they are mounted using stainless style brackets that fit over the top radius of your door frame. All mounting brackets are lined to protect the paintwork of your pride and joy.

With a choice of styles, sizes and colours, you can create the perfect cooler for your ride. We have a range of standard colours available (black, white, beige, dark metallic grey or light grey) or we can supply the cooler in bare primer for you to add the final top coat. Alternatively if you want the cooler colour matched to your vehicle, please supply us with 0.5L of 2K paint and we will finish the cooler for you. The coolers are available as either 8 inch or 6 inch diameter, and can be produced in any length to suit your vehicle.

Every Swamp City Cooler is bespoke, tailored to your vehicle, and built to your requirements. The coolers are available as either 6 inch or 8 inch diameter, can be custom painted, have graphics added, and be fitted with range of alternative style end caps.

All Swamp City Coolers are manufactured in-house and can be made to fit either left or right-hand drive vehicles. Just let us know your requirements.

Here we have created two "Coca-Coolers". Available in Six or Eight inch Diameter with a selection of Ends. Both Coca-Coolers shown are built to the standard 50cm length, but this can of course be changed to suit your application. If you have a particular design in mind, please contact us.

HISTORY

A thermador, or car cooler, is an automobile window-mounted evaporative air cooler, usually referred to as a swamp cooler. It is considered to be an early type of automobile air conditioner, popular in the warm Southern states of the USA.

Filled with water (or ice and straw), air flow through the swamp cooler heats the water which in turn cools the incoming air through a process called latent cooling. The air becomes cooler and more moisture laden, and is directed via internal baffles into the interior of the vehicle.

Swamp Coolers were originally produced between 1930 and the 1960’s and were sold as an additional extra when purchasing a new car.

They were particularly popular in the desert type states of America. Today, original swamp coolers are extremely rare and difficult to find and if you do manage to find one, they are often extremely expensive and will require extensive refurbishment.
